Author: Nicola Yoon
This lovely YA caught my attention because guilty as charged; I love bubble boy/girl stories! Don’t ask me why because I honestly don’t have an answer for it.
This book is about a young girl, Madeline and a young boy, Olly. How do these two meetings? Well Madeline has a rare, rare disease that has prevented her from going outside. Experiencing a normal life just is not in the cards for her. She’s content with her books, her plain white tees, and her game/movie nights with her mom. Until Olly moves in next door…
Hands down, Olly is my favorite character. For his age and because of his experiences he is a lot more mature than your average teenager. This doesn’t mean he isn’t still handsome or charming or straight up hysterical, he just knows how to treat a lady. His strength, bravery and loyalty never once falter throughout this story. And I love him for that!
I have witnessed reviews where people have said this is just another average YA book; nothing special. This story is so damn adorable than a lot of YA books I read. It’s simplistic and romantic in its own YA way. And guess what? There’s nothing wrong with that! It’s the reason I fell in love with this book. It also makes it easy when the authors writing is so fluent. Yoon definitely has a way with words and knows just how to write a damn good book.
